New
Directions Theatrical Society was founded in July 2008 and since then
we've gone from strength to strength and been incredibly busy performing
revues, concerts and musicals.
We
started out with just a few members rehearsing in a small room in a
pub and our first shows took place at smaller venues such as The Drama
Hall at Coleg Sir Gar and Pontlliw Village Hall. By the beginning of
2010 our membership had grown to over 80 members, we found our permanent
rehearsal venue at The Wesleyan Hall, introduced our Youth Academy and
performed our first production at Theatr Elli, which was the first Amateur
production in South Wales of Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story.
Since then we have performed a number of shows at Theatr Elli including
our 2011 shows the Disney’s High School Musical Junior and The
Producers. We have also written two of our own shows Once Upon A Time
and The Treasures Of Broadway, which proved hugely popular with our
audiences.
2012 is looking to be a yet another busy year for us. We’ll be
starting the year with out Youth Academy’s performance of Disney’s
Alice in Wonderland Junior at Burry Port Memorial Hall from Thursday
29th – Friday 30th March. Our Theatrical Society will then be
performing The Sound Of Music from Thurs 31st May – Sat 2nd June
at Theatr Elli, which will be our final musical at this venue before
it closes.
We
have lots more planned for the rest of the year but you’ll have
to watch this space for more details! We're always on the lookout for
new members, so please feel free to have a look around and get in touch.
